Container World, an African container specialist, has purchased MRI Intermodal’s leasing and trading software to support future growth. As the company has been expanding throughout sub-Saharan Africa, its current bespoke solution has struggled to keep up with the demands of the business. Container World decided to find a proven system that could move the organisation forward and improve its competitive edge.
Established in 1983, Container World is involved with sales, rentals, conversions and transport of new and pre-owned marine shipping containers. It has a large catalogue of equipment based strategically in major centres across South Africa, as well as Namibia and Angola. The conversion and modification of containers are carried out to the highest specification, in terms of quality and consistency.
In addition, we have recently started offering One-way Lease services to further expand our reach throughout Africa. MRI Intermodal Software will assist us greatly with all of these new endeavours due to the functionality and flexibility within its solution
Container World’s bespoke system was originally developed in the 1990s and had more than managed its needs for many years. As the company outgrew the software, it prompted a search for a new solution. “We chose MRI Intermodal Software because of its proven ability in the field and confirmation from other MRI customers that the system was helping to achieve operational efficiencies,” explained Simon Lee, Director at Container World. “Our initial impression is that the system is stringent, yet versatile, giving us control but also the ability to cater for the unique needs of our business.
“There are some key areas that the new software will help us with,” continued Lee, “including the ability to search stock by so many different criteria, the seamless passing of information from one department to another, the automated tracking process of containers in and out of depots (On-hire/Off-hire) and having access to central information for all our departments which might previously have been limited or non-existent.”
Container World is expanding its self-storage facilities throughout South Africa and needs to offer monthly billing as well as the current daily system. “The flexibility of providing different billing options will be a major plus for us,” declared Lee. “In addition, we have recently started offering One-way Lease services to further expand our reach throughout Africa. MRI Intermodal Software will assist us greatly with all of these new endeavours due to the functionality and flexibility within its solution.”
MRI is delighted to take on another customer in Africa as its client base develops in regions outside of Europe and North America. Customers recently acquired include Container Express and Rigtank from Brazil and Tradecorp International from Hong Kong.
